How to engage youth…

There is no secret formula for engaging youth but there are some key points to keep in mind:

  • Communicate.  Outline the big issue, the goals of your projects, who it will affect, ask them for ideas, involve them with planning, give feedback often.
  • Empowerment.  Give youth a specific task and they will run with it.
  • Collaboration.  (Marries with communication).  Young people work well in team situations.  They build on each other’s ideas.

Youth engagement is a powerful tool to further grassroots efforts, organizations and goals.  Youth WANT to feel meaning in their lives and actions – engage them!
